Estonia was introduced as an attractive destination of nature tourism
during the family days held at Floriade between 3 and 5 August. Several
exciting activities were organised for all age groups in the Estonian
pavilion and adjacent areas. Children could participate in an animated
cartoon workshop conducted by Eesti Nukufilm, various entertaining games
were played, and it was also possible to climb on an Estonian
playground designed specially for this event. Estonian music and design
were introduced by the Estonian Music and Design Cafe, and accordion
players Kristi Kool and Toomas Oks attracted visitors to the Estonian
pavilion with their singing. The vocal group Greip as well as Maarja and
Peeter Rebane performed at the festive concert held on the national
day.
"We had a velotaxi driving around the site, which brought
visitors from all corners of the exhibition straight to Estonia, that is
to the Estonian pavilion, thus conveying the message that Estonia is so
close, just a couple of hours by air," said Allar Korjas, director of
the export division of Enterprise Estonia, about the concept underlying
the event. "We offered visitors a chance to contribute to Estonian
nature by planting their own tree in the Estonian woods."
The
plants will be put in the soil this autumn and next spring and a picture
of the planted area will be sent to everyone with the precise
coordinates of the location of their tree so that they can go visit it
every year should they want to. An information board will be placed next
to the planted area with the names of all those who participated in the
planting activity. One family trip to Estonia to visit their tree was
raffled off among all those who had planted their tree. This was the
result of cooperation between the State Forest Management Centre and
Estonian Air.
